Home Pre-K

Since a huge part of our recent lifestyle change was so that I could stay home with the girls, we are not sending them to preschool, just doing it here! We do flash cards, activity books, etc.-and lots of art, but recently I found a great blog that had some great lessons/curriculum to use. I will share the link ASAP! *update* read about program here Raising Rock Star Preschoolers

I have to modify a bit for what Claire can do while Harper works on more advanced things. Mostly she loves practicing her cutting skills and taping. Putting tape on anything!

The scarecrow unit is a hit. We read The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown to go along with it.

We made a visit to see my Aunt Connie and helped her pick some pears. The girls thought shaking the branches was so neat!

A shot of the playroom. Claire likes to listen to stories on the leap pad. We all love the chalkboard wall!

They are already making their birthday & Christmas wish lists! (Warning: watch out for 1-click shopping! )

Fall Fun

Our first family trip to the State Fair was a success! Cheese fries for supper, funnel cake and cotton candy for dessert (oh tummy aches!). They even looked the other way when Claire went tippy toe to meet the 36" requirement to ride!

We've been having a few bonfires around here. The moon was so bright you could see your shadow and we sat outside until too late!

The summer was so busy and fun. After selling our house in Tuscaloosa, we lived in Gammy's house for a few weeks to finish out work notices and such, then I took the girls to Mom and Dad's in Muscle Shoals to play and patiently wait on our loan to close on the new homestead. We had envisioned playing in the pool everyday, but it was FA-reezing, so we did things like going to the splash pad and all the cute parks nearby. Claire was potty trained in about a week and we all did a BIG cheer! Then we finally closed on the new house and immediately started painting. Two coats of primer + two coats of paint on EVERY WALL = very tired Ken & Stacey. We had all the painting done and furniture moved in before family was home for the 4th of July week. We had our annual fish fry for the 4th in Iuka and were so happy to have aunts and uncles home to play with. It was finally warm enough to swim that week & we had bunches of fun! It was a sad when everyone left, but we got back to working on the house. We're STILL working on the house, but taking it slow so we can work in lots of fun time. I'm loving being at home with the girls. We have our "school" time and do lots of reading and art. Both girls are taking dance and Harper is in a reading class at the library. AND we've been attending a church where everyone is so nice and welcoming and there are lots of little friends for the girls, so our lives (and hearts) are feeling full.

So far, our "farm", aka Shady Acres, has been mostly remodeling, bush hogging, grass cutting and prep work. We plan to have a garden, chickens and maybe a goat or two! Right now we have two kittens outside and a puppy, our little fluff ball, Jack, inside. Can't wait to grow this thing! Alright, on to pics :)
